NEIGHBORHOOD COMMISSION OFFICE (NCO)

January 2021 – December 2023
  1. EMPLOYEE RETENTION
Significantly improved NCO staff retention as a result of salary increases, with nearly half of the staff approaching three years of employment, which has assisted in maintaining institutional knowledge and the development of consistent office services.
  2. GOOGLE DRIVES FOR NEIGHBORHOOD BOARDS’ DOCUMENT EXCHANGE
Created Google Drives for all Neighborhood Boards as the primary way to disseminate information to the public, which has increased transparency and ease of access to public documents.
  3. NEIGHBORHOOD BOARD YOUTUBE CHANNEL
Created a YouTube channel dedicated to the uploading of Neighborhood Board meeting videos, which are posted online within 3 days. This allows the public to be able to view recordings of meetings almost immediately, instead of previously having to wait for recordings of meetings to air on television.
  4. CONFERENCES OF CHAIRS – 2023
Conducted three Conferences of Chairs in 2023, a change from the historically once-per-year annual Conference of Chairs. This has allowed the NCO to more frequently update Neighborhood Board Chairs on available training, general information and inquiries.
  5. INTERNAL TRACKING OF REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS
Developed an internal tracking system for Mayor’s Representative Reports to be able to more quickly address questions that come from Neighborhood Board meetings. The tracking system addresses time for responses and follow-ups, as well as provides other data such as how many questions are forwarded to each department.
  6. SUPPORT FOR PARADES AND EVENTS
Increased participation and support for parades and events with Neighborhood Boards, including having NCO staff participate in board-specific events to foster better relationships between the NCO and Neighborhood Board members.
  7. MARKETING OF 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD BOARD SYSTEM
Increased public awareness of the Neighborhood Boards through marketing the 50th anniversary of the Neighborhood Board System.
  8. NEW NEIGHBORHOOD COMMISSIONERS
Increased public understanding of the Neighborhood Board System with the appointment of three new Neighborhood Commissioners who have experience with the Neighborhood Plan.
  9. UPGRADED EQUIPMENT AND STAFF FOR HYBRID NEIGHBORHOOD BOARDS
Increased capability to perform hybrid style Neighborhood Board meetings through both upgraded equipment and additional staff training.
  10. REDUCED PAPER CONSUMPTION
Continued reduction of paper usage by advertising the availability of resources such as Neighborhood Board agendas and meeting minutes through the NCO website or by email.
